Pricing is decent and the camp ground is not too far from the city. There is a special early check-in if you want to visit the cheese market on fridays for an extra 5€. There is Wi-fi for free, but it won't reach you and will be barely usable if you are more than 20m from the reception. The staff speak Dutch, English and German, which is nice. You can rent bikes, pedelecs and order bread for the next morning (9am). That's the positives. The plots are ok, if you want to use your pavillion in front of the camper van, don't even try. The plots have tiles, so you have to drive exactly into them. To get to the washrooms, you have to cross over a moat with dirty, muggy water and hope you don't loose anything there in the dark. There is no lighting, only the washrooms are lit up and the corner of the ends of the bigger pathways. Bathrooms are ok, five for woman, four for men and one pissoir. All next to each other, in the mornings it's a very communal event and everyone hears everything. So don't go at the same time as your spouse. Only one sink. Around the corner is the chemical toilet and around that corner the washer/dryer (coins from the reception. In Dutch it says detergent is added automatically, in English and German it says to add it yourself). Next to the washer are three basins for cleaning dishes. Only one has hot water. The rest is cold. All sinks hat that annoying pressing thing where water stops after 10 seconds and you have to press it again to get another 10 seconds of water. All faucets are built at the far left side of the sink and incredibly close to it. So it's hard to fill your bucket for washing dishes or getting the foam of your dinnerwear. Inside the washrooms is one sink with warm water to the left and one to the right. Straight ahead are three stalls with sinks. Right hand side are the woman's showers, left is the men's. Showers are wall mounted (have fun cleaning thick hair or all your bits and pieces), one temperature (fairly hot, bye sensitive skin/scalp) and a five minute timer. It's a real race to clean yourself. After you are done, the timer doesn't reset immediately. So if it's busy in the summer you have to wait after someone vacates the shower. So the washrooms are all in all not great. A special pleasure was watching someone clean everything while I did my dishes and used the bathroom. He had one blue rug for everything and one spray bottle. Entered the woman's showers without announcing himself, was in there for two minutes, came out, cleaned the sink I used for dish washing with one lazy swipe and went around the building for the bathroom stalls. He opend one, decided it was clean enough, closed it again, gave the one sink a spritz from his bottle, wiped one side with his one blue rag and left again towards the shower side. He didn't wipe up all his spray. He didn't clean or open any other bathroom stalls and didn't touch the dishwashing stations outside (still someone's old onion in there when I passed it by). So hygiene is seemingly not very important here.

We've stayed here several times already because this campsite is simply fantastic. The owners are incredibly friendly and take excellent care of the site. The pitches offer a pleasant combination of gravel for the motorhome and grassy areas right in front, making for a very comfortable stay. The location is superb – Alkmaar city center is easily accessible, and there are great opportunities for cycling tours in the surrounding area. It's the perfect base for anyone wanting to explore the region. We highly recommend this campsite and will definitely be back!
