We attempted to stay at this site while cycle touring. Having read all the positive reviews, we were very disappointed by the cold and unwelcoming reception we received here. On arrival, we tried phoning the number at the gate, but there was no answer, just a recorded message. I wandered around the site and found a lady who was, presumably, the warden. I explained that we were cycle touring and would like to stay here. She asked "are you members?" and when I said we weren't, was told "No, goodbye!" This is the only campsite in the Netherlands that turned us away on our whole trip. There was plenty of space, and we would have been happy to sign up as members on the spot, given the opportunity. It's a beautiful and quiet tent-only site, but unfortunately (and contrary to many other reviews), very unwelcoming to non-members.

An excellent campsite- very happy to receive guests, because we were cycling/cycle touring

You need to be a member of the NTKC to have access to the site, however once you are enrolled you can use all of the club sites throughout The Netherlands. This is a back to basics camping club, as camping used to be with the emphasis on nostalgia. Cyclists and hikers are welcomed with open arms. It is in fact difficult to arrive by car and only certain members can bring a caravan. The sites rely on the members to keep everything in good shape and although the facilities are basic, the experiences are wonderful. Wide spaces for your tent, kayaks available and a fire pit with dry wood. All for 4 euro pp per night (plus annual membership).
