Camperplaats De Voortse Akker in Ermelo calls itself pet-free, but anyone walking around here discovers that there are chickens strutting solemnly across the grass like little T-Rexes. Els put Heintje on, “Mama” echoed softly across the field, while I leafed through the Action flyer, extension cords and cushions on sale. A chicken is never just a chicken. Still in the egg, she talks to her chick. She walks with the skeleton of a dinosaur, and anyone looking closely can already see Anton Heijboer appearing, as if the chicken had walked straight out of his yard. A banal fascination that presents itself between Harderwijk and Ermelo. The campsite itself is quiet, spacious, and clean. No dogs, no cats, no goose droppings. Hedgehogs shuffle around the campers at night and keep the insects in check. The chickens take up the daytime, pecking away a tomato or crumb here and there. Pet-free turns out to be a pleasant chicken campsite. Four stars. Thanks owner, we will be back. Next time we’ll bring the chicken caravan and chicken soup for the road.

A wonderful place with a very friendly owner. After one night, she was surprised to find out that there were no departure times, so we could still cycle around the area at our leisure. We gratefully took advantage of that. Highly recommended for every camper.

Great flat field with friendly owners. You have to pay in cash! Close to lots of walks and cycles. Very quiet. Best to be self sufficient as no showers and not all spaces have electricity but was great for 1 night on the way back to Rotterdam for the ferry. Can’t book, just turn up any time 6am-11pm. Would definitely stay here again.
